Taking the Easy Way Out

Updated: Aug 3

As a society we've been conditioned to be apathetic, lazy, self pampered. We've been conditioned to always look for the easy way out. We don't like being in a state of discomfort. This makes us very controllable for those who seek to control us.

In my own experience I've discovered taking what one sees as the easy way out is seldom the way to go. I've found long term that it results in my life being far more difficult after taking that road and that I suffered more long term than if I'd simply confronted and conquered the harder, less traveled road.

By taking the easy way, you might seem to achieve your goal but it won’t last for long. Since taking the easy way means you never solve the root of the problem, the problem could resurface at any time - and always eventually does and always with unpleasant consequences. On the other hand, if you take the more difficult route and solve the root of the problem, you will get success that lasts. Don’t take shortcuts when you face a problem. It may look easy and attractive, but it’s not without its danger. What you should do instead is face the challenge and do the right thing. It might be painful and take a long time, but the reward makes it worth it. There's also the sense of accomplishment you feel when conquering the harder way out. We all need challenges in our lives to overcome, it's how we're built as humans. We'd become hopelessly bored without them. Imagine where we'd be today if Edison hadn't conquered the challenge of electricity, Tesla hadn't conquered the challenges and difficulties of creating advanced technology, or the Wright Brothers had resigned themselves to taking the easy way out and told themselves "Humans will never fly." Those who advance society as a whole have never taken the easy way out. And with each difficult accomplishment your self esteem grows, your ability to handle the more difficult path grows. You become more secure in yourself and your abilities.

When those around you see the way you handle your situation, they will respect you. They will look at you as someone to learn from. You might even become an inspiration to them.

Doing the right thing is easier said than done, but it’s something we can all learn to do. March into your battles courageously and solve the root of each problem. You'll make your life far easier in the long run.
