My Psychic Adventures with Lincoln

I've had some psychic 'adventures' with Lincoln (or "Linc as I call him) that not only spun my head in 360's but the heads of everyone involved in them or that witnessed them.

It all began with my fellow psychic medium friend Mike from South Africa.

A bunch of my psychic friends were hanging out in an online chat, just shooting the breeze, when Mike suddenly said "Pat, I have someone here with a message for you."

"OK, who is it? I asked."

"Some American dude," Mike replied.

"Well that sure narrows the field down," I laughed. "Can you be more specific?"

"Says his name is Abraham," Mike said.

I scanned my data banks. I couldn't think of anyone in spirit I knew named Abraham.

"He says you wrote a report about him in 5th grade," Mike continued. "And when you went to visit him you were eating a red lolly and tried to sit in his lap."

I'd never told a living soul about that, not even my own family! I had indeed been eating a red sucker when I tried to climb into Lincoln's lap at the Lincoln Memorial! And I had written a report about him in the 5th grade!

BUT HOW COULD MIKE HAVE KNOWN THIS??!!!

Now, Mike was a practical joker. He was also sick with terminal cancer so if I was the butt of one of his jokes, that was okay with me if it brought a smile to his face. I decided to play along with his joke.

"I seeeee...so you're saying you have ABRAHAM LINCOLN with a message for me?"

"I dunno...some American dude. (Pause) Who's Abraham Lincoln?"

Everyone in the room informed him who Lincoln had been. He seemed truly embarrassed that he hadn't known who Lincoln was.

"And pray tell what does Lincoln want?" I asked, trying to keep a straight face.

"He wants you to try automatic writing. An important letter of his was lost and he wants to dictate this letter to you."

According to Abe I was then to send this dictated letter to the National Archives in Washington D.C.

"And tell them what?" I laughed. "That THE Abraham Lincoln dictated this letter to me from beyond the grave? I'm sure they'd believe THAT!"

"He says that proof of what you've written will be delivered."

Okay, time to put an end to Mike's practical joke.

"Well, you tell Abe I don't do automatic writing and I'll pass."

I figured that would put an end to Mike's joke. It didn't. Abe then went around to every person in the room, telling them something that happened in their lives that they'd neverr told anyone about, just as he had with me. Theiir shock was clearly evident - and I began to wonder What the hell is going on here?

Mike's voice and mannerisms then changed completely and Abe launched into a speech about the Civil War and (quote) "mens blood being spilled in the sand". He said if we didn't learn from history we were doomed to repeat it.

This was the most eloquent speech any of us had ever heard and by the time Abe finished it, there wasn't a dry eye among us. It began to dawn on me that maybe this hadn't been one of Mike's jokes after all. But Abe had "left the building".

Only after we'd composed ourselves did it dawn on us that day was the 4th of July - Independence Day.

A couple of days later I ran inito Mike and asked him if it had been one of his practical jokes. He swore up and down it wasn't and that he really hadn't known who Lincoln was.

In fact, "some American dude" became a joke between us until Mike's death the following year.

If there's one thing a psychic medium knows it's that you don't mess with those in spirit unless you're cruising for a bruising. Yet I couldn't turn back the clock and do it all over again. So I did the only thing I could do...that night I said "Abe? If you can hear me I'm sorry! I thought you were Mike playing a joke on me."

To my complete astonishment I suddenly heard a soft male voice say "That's okay, Love. You didn't know."

OH HOLY SH**! HE WAS BACK?!!

"Do I dare ask if this is you?" I asked.

"It is. But I know how you like your proof, Patricia. Go to a web page about me with photos. And by the way, please call me Lincoln. I never liked anyone calling me Abraham"

POOF! He was gone.

I wasn't going to chance screwing up again. I pulled up a website on Lincoln and this is the first thing I saw:

HE BEING DEAD YET SPEAKETH?!! Okay apparently Abe wasn't fooling around! Not only that, I found a blurb stating he hated being called Abraham so was called Lincoln by everyone, even his wife!

Whoa! Now what? "HEY! GET YOUR PRESIDENTIAL ASS BACK HERE!" I shouted.

Gales of shrill laughter, "You don't have to shout, love, I'm dead not deaf!"

"Sorry. Why did you come to me about this lost letter?"

"Because we share a bond."

"What bond?"

"You're a smart cookie. You'll figure it out." POOF! he was gone again.

For a couple of weeks I wracked my brain trying to figure out what the bond was.

Sure, I'd always had a love of and kind of attachement to the Lincolns. As a kid we'd taken a tour of his Springfield home and as we entered the parlor I said loud enough for everyone to hear "Eddie died in this room!"

No one was more stunned than the tour guide. "Yes, he did...but how did you know that?"

"He just told me," I said, completely non chalant about the whole thing because I believed everyone could see and talk to dead people like I could.

"Is Eddie here with us now?" the tour guide very hesitantly asked. "Yeah, he's right here next to me. He wants me to play with him."

Talk about being able to hear a pin drop after I came out with that little revelation!

But millions of people admired Lincoln. There had to be more to this bond than that!

I came up with an idea. My best friend was a psychic medium in Australia. I'd ask her to channel Lincoln without knowing who she was channeling. That way she couldn't inadvertently put her own spin on anything.

"Gee Sis...this man has wonderful energy!" she began.

So far so good, she knew he was male and what his energy was like.

"Ask him what the bond is," I instructed.

"Sis, did this man have sons?"

"Yeah, 4 of them. Why?"

"He's saying you're the second. And he's showing me a baker?"

Papers are flying through the air on my end as I scramble to find the piece of paper I'd written the names of his sons on. Sure enough, second son - Edward BAKER Lincoln.

"Oh Sis, you should see him laughing at the look on your face!"

"Is he saying I'm the reincarnation of Eddie?" "Oh Sis, he's laughing so hard here...yup, that's what he's saying!"

No, I didn't buy this initially.

"Sis? Who is this I have?" "You wouldn't believe me if I told you," I replied,

"Try me."

"Abraham Lincoln."

"Oh. (Pause) Wasn't he one of your American Presidents or something?"

I guess Aussies know little more about Lincoln than the South Africans did.

So I set out to DISPROVE I was the reincarnation of Eddie Lincoln. Yeah, good luck with that! By the time I had 3 pages of synchronicities listed I threw my hands in the air.

  • Both of our mothers were named Mary.

  • Eddie died of tuberculosis, At his same age I nearly died of pnuemonia.

  • My grandparents lived on BAKER Road.

  • At Eddie's age I attended kindergarten at Lincoln School, played in Lincoln Park and my dad's practice was located above the Lincoln Pharmacy.

  • The Lincoln Pharmacy was owned by a man named ED Wavro, who treated me like his own daughter.

  • Eddie and I even shared identical stories about adopting a stray cat - over our mothers vehement objections. Finally, I approached a very well known psychic, telling her nothing about this Eddie reincarnation business.

First thing out of her mouth? "They're telling me you're the reincarnation of Eddie Lincoln and that you really should give automatic writing a try."

Of course, Linc was having a grand old laugh over all of this. And soon enough he was popping in on me on a daily basis. And my friends! He had no problem at all joining our chick chats, even giving makeup tips to my female friends. They loved him! But he spun their heads in 360's too.

One night he went to my friend, Janet White during our chick chat, She had no idea who she had.

Finally, she asked "Patty, who is this I have?"

I said "Ask him."

LONNNNNNNG PAUSE...

"OMG! I HAVE ABRAHAM LINCOLN? THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN? PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN? OMG WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!! MY HAIR IS A MESS!"

It took us 10 minutes to calm Janet down.

"Wait a minute...why would I have Abraham Lincoln with a message for YOU?" she questioned.

"Ask him."

Another long pause... 'YOU'RE RELATED TO ABRAHAM LINCOLN?!! YOU NEVER TOLD ME YOU WERE RELATED TO ABRAHAM LINCOLN?!!

Yup, by then Linc had told me we were actually related by blood. My husband was a genealogist so traced back my ancestry. Sure enough, Linc was my 5X great uncle through my mother's side of the family. The one who'd grown up on BAKER Road no less.

And that lost letter he'd asked me to write for him that he'd said proof would be delivered?

Hubby and I were eating dinner while watching the TV news when suddenly the news anchor announced "A lost letter written by President Abraham Lincoln has just been found in the National Archives..." Precisely where Lincoln had told me to send the lost letter he was going to dictate to me.

Here's the letter and here's the story of it being found in the National Archives.

US national archives unveils recovered Lincoln letter

Washington, DC…Today, the National Archives announced the discovery of a new Abraham Lincoln message written in President Lincoln’s own hand to Major General Henry Halleck. The message, which was found among the Adjutant General’s Records in the stacks at the National Archives Building, is dated July 7, 1863. It is part of a collection of “Generals’ Papers” which includes miscellaneous documents relating to Halleck.

After General Halleck received the note from the President, he quoted the information verbatim in a telegram to General Meade on the same day. The telegram, but not the note, was first published in 1889 as part of The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies. Subsequent histories and collections have cited the telegram, but President Lincoln’s original note itself remained elusive and has never been cited by historians. At the press conference, the original note was shown for the first time.

Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein hailed this discovery as a "significant find." He added that "it shows us that there are still exciting discoveries to be made at the National Archives. History is never a closed book. The document displayed today contributes to our understanding of some of the major figures of the Civil War."

Trevor Plante, a specialist in Civil War records at the National Archives, discovered the message in the National Archives files while looking for some materials in response to a reference request. In commenting on the discovery, Plante said that “this message was one of the missing pieces of the puzzle. Its discovery shows us the urgency and the importance that General Halleck attached to Lincoln’s note. More importantly, we are not left to rely on a telegram quoting Lincoln, we now have the original document. Halleck’s telegram to Meade, which we now know was sent the same day as Lincoln’s note, quotes the President’s message exactly.”

The note expresses Lincoln’s optimism that if General Meade could destroy Confederate General Lee’s army, the war would be over. For several days after Meade’s victory at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, both Halleck and Lincoln implored Meade to fight Lee’s army before it crossed the Potomac River. The President feared that once Lee crossed the river Meade’s golden opportunity to strike the wounded army would be lost.

Lincoln’s message said:Major Genl HalleckWe have certain information that Vicksburg surrendered to General Grant on the 4th of July. Now, if Gen. Meade can complete his work so gloriously prosecuted thus far, by the litteral(sic) or substantial destruction of Lee's army, the rebellion will be over.Yours truly,A. LINCOLN

Lincoln’s fears became reality on July 14 when Lee’s army escaped Meade’s clutches and crossed the Potomac at Williamsport, Maryland, into Virginia. Upon hearing the news a dispirited Lincoln sat down and wrote “… my dear general, I do not believe you appreciate the magnitude of the misfortune involved in Lee's escape. He was within your easy grasp, and to have closed upon him would, in connection with our other late successes, have ended the war. As it is, the war will be prolonged indefinitely…Your golden opportunity is gone, and I am distressed immeasureably(sic) because of it.” Lincoln did not send this message to Meade, instead the President wrote on the envelope “To Gen. Meade, never sent, or signed.” And so the Civil War raged on until the spring of 1865.

Among the vast holdings of the National Archives are millions of Civil War–related records, including battle reports, correspondence, telegrams, service records, pension files, maps, and photographs from the Union Army and also records from the Confederate government, which were captured by Federal forces or given to the War and Treasury Departments after the Civil War.

My husband literally had to dive over the dinner table to perform the Heimlich Manuver on me. There's was no rational way of explaining what had just happened in relation to my message from Abe years prior. There it was in black and white! The very letter Linc had asked to dictate to me, that he said proof would be delivered - just as he'd predicted, in the very place he'd asked me to send the dictated letter to.

But he still wasn't done spinning my head in 360's - or hubby's either!

We were enroute back to our house from a medical appointment 2 hours away when the water pump went out in our van. This was before we had cell phones. It was a beastly hot day, neither of us could walk miles to get help and no one on the highway stopped to offer us help.

Finally I said to hubby "OK, you're going to think I'm nuts but I can only think of one other thing to do. I shouted "LINC! WE NEED YOUR HELP!"

Hubby looked at me as though my cheese had slid right off my cracker.

Yet not 2 minutes later a LINCOLN County deputy pulls up behind us and calls a tow truck to come get us.

Hubby stared at me, his eyes the size of dinner plates, and exclaimed "Jesus Christ! You really DO talk to him!"

Within an hour our van was fixed and we were on our way home.

Linc was about to spin my sister's head in 360's too. He predicted he was going to reincarnate into our family again. I asked him how I would know it was him and he said "You'll know by my name."

My niece was pregnant at the time and I told my sister about Linc's reincarnation into our family. She didn't believe me either until one summer day she nearly broke my front door down as she ran in shouting "THEY'RE NAMING THE BABY LINK!"

But that still wasn't all. Linc began giving me "presents" on March 10, what was Eddie's birthday. I was having coffee one morning when Linc told me to turn on the TV. A photo that had been in Ulysses S. Grant's family had surfaced!

I remember I heard about this news a few years ago. A photographer during President Lincoln's times had snapped a photo of the White House. This photo was kept at the President Grant's library. Upon closer look at the photo, you can see a tall man walking towards the center of the White House. It also seems like the man had a full beard and was taller than the rest of the people. Lincoln was 6'3 tall and had a full beard. You can also see the people that are following him and the people welcoming him. Many historians are saying that this is the only photograph of President Lincoln at the White House and could be the last photograph of him before his assignation. It's an interesting photograph that froze a moment in time.

Linc and I grew very close over time and he revealed to me things the public never knew about him and his life.
