I was surfing the Net when I came across another travel destination to put on my bucket list - Jules' Undersea Lodge.

"Located in the lagoon at MarineLab Undersea Park, Jules’ Undersea Lab is the world’s only underwater habitat where any recreational diver can experience what it’s like to live and sleep underwater! It’s an educational experience with overnight options. Jules’ has been an undersea research station, an exclusive hotel, and now an educational attraction as part of the non-profit MarineLab."

Oh yeah baby...right up my alley!

Dive into the extraordinary with our immersive 2-day/1-night Aquanaut Adventure at Jules' Undersea Lab. This is more than just a stay—it's a hands-on experience that takes you beyond recreational diving and into the exclusive world of the deep-sea explorer.

There are two private bedrooms that can host up to six guests total, a common area for socializing with your fellow underwater pioneers, and yes – a fully functional bathroom.

Because even 21 feet underwater, certain comforts remain non-negotiable.

The windows – or portholes, to use proper underwater dwelling terminology – offer an ever-changing panorama of marine life.

Schools of tropical fish, graceful rays, and even the occasional curious manatee might drift by while you’re enjoying your morning coffee.

It’s like having National Geographic playing on every wall, except it’s live and unscripted.

The kitchen comes fully stocked, allowing guests to prepare their own meals.

Though there’s something delightfully ironic about cooking fish while fish are watching you through the window. It creates a certain existential tension in the dining experience that you just can’t get at Red Lobster.

For those who prefer not to cook during their underwater adventure, the lodge can arrange for a “mer-chef” to dive down with a gourmet meal.

Yes, you read that correctly – underwater food delivery exists.

The air inside the lodge is continuously refreshed and climate-controlled, keeping things comfortable despite being surrounded by water.

The lodge itself was originally built as a research laboratory in the 1970s before someone had the brilliant idea that regular folks might enjoy the chance to live like aquanauts for a night or two.

Whoever that visionary was deserves a standing ovation, or perhaps a synchronized swimming routine in their honor.

Getting to your underwater accommodations requires a 21-foot scuba dive through the crystal-clear lagoon waters of Key Largo. No elevators, no bellhops, just you and your dive gear descending into another world.

This technological marvel means you can enjoy all the wonders of underwater living without any of the traditional drawbacks, like, you know, drowning.

At night, the lodge’s exterior lights illuminate the surrounding waters, attracting nocturnal sea creatures and creating an ethereal glow that makes you feel like you’re sleeping in a living snow globe – minus the snow, plus a lot of fish.

The lodge also features books, music, and movies for entertainment, though it’s hard to imagine choosing to watch “Finding Nemo” when you’re literally living it.

For the technologically dependent travelers (which is pretty much all of us these days), yes, there is Wi-Fi.

Beyond just lounging around in your underwater habitat (which would be entirely justified given how cool it is), guests can participate in additional dive excursions to explore more of the surrounding marine sanctuary or even participate in citizen science projects, helping to monitor coral health or document fish populations.

It’s vacation with a purpose, allowing you to contribute to the preservation of the very environments you’re enjoying.

The lagoon where Jules’ is located is protected, offering a safe haven for countless species of fish, crustaceans, and plant life.

Not scuba certified? Not a problem! The lodge offers a special “Discover Scuba” program that will have you confidently finning your way to your subaquatic suite even if you’ve never strapped on an oxygen tank before.

But of course, there's always that moment when you discover the price tag involved with a vacay like this, that causes you to grab your Pink Pearl eraser to delete the trip from your bucket list.

Not this time! Cost: $1800 per couple based on double occupancy. $500 each for additional person, up to 4 total.

The Adventure Itinerary Highlights:

Your journey begins with arrival, detailed site/safety orientation, and essential gear packing. After a guided dive of the lagoon, you will make the thrilling descent to Enter Jules' Undersea Lab via the moon pool.

A stay at Jules’ Undersea Lodge isn’t just accommodation – it’s a conversation starter for years to come.

It’s the vacation equivalent of having a pet tiger or knowing how to juggle flaming torches.

Nobody forgets the person who casually mentions they’ve slept underwater.
